There’s nothing cuter and easier than a simple, slouchy hat that highlights a fun, bright worsted-weight yarn. Easy and quick to knit, this pattern is a great first-hat pattern!

This worsted-weight beanie hat is knit in the round using a 16” circular needle and a set of double-pointed needles, or a long circular needle using the magic loop technique.

Sizing is flexible, as this hat is meant to be worn loosely. If a tighter fit is desired at the ribbing, go down a needle size for the ribbing. For a snugger, beanie-style fit, work fewer rounds before the crown decreases.

Sizing:
adult medium to large; head circumference of 21”-23”

Materials:

  • Approx. 190 yards of worsted-weight yarn
  • US size 7 and US size 8 16” circular needles plus US size 8 double-pointed needles, or long circulars for magic loop
  • Stitch markers
  • Tapestry needle

Notes:

  • Suitable for any worsted-weight yarn with a bit of drape.

  • Left-leaning decreases, like ssks, allow for knitting right up to the decrease-stitch line, and are easier to spot when “reading” your knitting. With k2tog, decreases are worked 2 stitches before the decrease-stitch line. If you have a hard time reading your knitting or counting, use stitch markers instead.
