Slouchy Summer Santa Hat
The Santa Hat for Summer!
The Slouchy Summer Santa Hat came into being due to my love of Christmas and my love for my son. Whenever I put a santa hat on my son he would pull it off before I could even take a photo. They were just too hot for him. After an extensive search I found heaps of beautiful crochet hat patterns but they were all designed with a white Christmas in mind so I decided to create one myself and the Slouchy Summer Santa Hat was born!
The first Christmas with his hat was a total hit (he actually wanted to wear it and he looked super cute) so I decided to expand the sizes - to 9 in fact! So now you can make one of these for anyone from a tiny baby to a full grown adult.
Details
This hat is crocheted in rounds from the top down with a simple ribbed band that is flat on the back.
It has a rounded funnel shape, rather than a straight cone shape, for the Santa hat look with a slouchy mesh design that is comfortable to wear.
Each size is created with the same hook and yarn and therefore maintains the same look and feel.
Skill Level: Easy - the pattern uses basic stitches suitable for advanced beginners.
Stitches used: Double Magic Circle, ch, sc, hdc, dc, fpdc, sl st.
Yarn: Any DK weight yarn, though cotton or similar makes this pattern more wearable in warm weather. I’ve used Bendigo Woollen Mills 8ply cotton in Pomegranate and Parchment and Moda Vera Beetle in Red and White.
Finished sizes (circumference):
