** November 2015 update **

I’ve redone this pattern and it’s prettier and easier to read! It now includes written instructions as well as new shiny charts!

Small Bones is a lovely basic hat pattern with a little added architectural lace panel. It’s great for beginner lace knitters because the lace is so non-threatening with it’s three gentle little repeats. Even though this hat has a classic, almost antique feel, it looks great on everybody. All the punks want them, and the grandmum’s too. The name Small Bones is from a tattoo that Heather, my good friend and model, got the day we took the photographs for this pattern. They are also soft-of lyrics from a song.

“Hey, I found the safest place
To keep all our tenderness
To keep all those bad ideas
To keep all our hope.

It’s here in the the smallest bones
The feet and the inner ear
It’s such an enormous thing
To walk and to listen.“
