These thick, cozy gingham fingerless mitts are easy to create with just one active yarn per row or round. The colorful motif is created using mosaic knitting, which involves alternating slipped and needed stitches.

This is possibly my favorite mosaic design: the slipped and knitted stitches combine together in a mysterious way to create the illusion of gingham with no stranding.

To effectively create the illusion, color selection of the yarns is key: in addition to white or off-white, select two colors of the same tone, but different values: in the featured sample, black and gray yarns are combined with white yarn.

The mitts are completely seamless, with the majority of the mitts being worked in the round. The thumb opening is worked back and forth in rows.

You’ll need a set of #5 DPNS as well as #7 DPNS to complete this project.

If you’re looking for an easy, yet impressive mosaic project, this is it!
