This book does not give a set gauge, needle size or brand of wool to use. It is more of a guide than a fast and hard set pattern. There are many different top/cuff designs and leg motifs to choose from to make a stocking.
The small sheperd’s plaid(shown on the front cover) is given in it’s entirety worked on 84 stitches, that would seem to work out to be a gauge of about 32 stitches to 4 inches in pattern.
