SMITTEN BORDER
My Smitten blanket is made out of 35 (5 x 7) Smitten squares. The Smitten square is a beautiful free pattern shared on ByHaafner blog. These squares are such a pleasure to make and so is the border.
I designed this lace-y border for my Smitten Blanket right after I finished joining my squares. I was looking for a wide and rich border, but on the other hand not too heavy. I wanted a border that will suit the elegancy and vintage appearance of the squares. The combination and different variety of stitches, make it look elegant and continue the feel of this unique crochet piece. The Smitten border is designed to fit any other blanket / project. If you use it on a different project, you might need to recalculate the number of stitches on the first round. Border making is the best part of the work in any crochet pattern.

BLANKET & BORDER MEASUREMENTS
Square size: 7.6” / 19.5 x 19.5 cm’. Weight: aproxx 35 gr’.
Smitten Blanket size: 50 x 67 inch / 128 cm x 170 cm’
My blanket is made of 5x7 squares framed by the Smitten border.
Smitten Border width: 4.3 inch / 11cm’

YARN
Sport weight - 4 ply cotton or any other yarn to match your blanket/ project
Smitten Blanket Yarn Pack - 36 cotton balls (50 gr’ each):

My Smitten Blanket is made out of 36 balls of Granny Kit cotton in colour SAND
The Smitten border is made out of aproxx 10.5 Granny Kit cotton balls.

HOOK SIZE
If you use Granny Kit cotton or any other similar yarn you will need a 2.75 -3 mm crochet hook.
Use the same hook you used for your Smitten Squares or any hook needed to obtain gouge.

GAUGE
24 sts x 12 rows = 4 x 4 inch (10 x 10 cm’) Measured on dc st after blocking.

NOTIONS
1 stitch marker, row counter, tapestry needle and crafty scissors.
