Smocking bandana cowl
Description:
This is the pattern for bandana style cowl with longer front and shorter back side, with smocking stitch on the front panel and 2x2 and 4x2 ribbing on sides and back.
Worked top down in the round and flat knitting for a short rows part.
Row by row (even for short rows) written instruction.
Materials:
You’ll need 1 skein of Malabrigo Yarn Rios 100% Merino wool 210 yd (192 m)/100 grams. If you knit loose, you probably will need more than 1 skein, make sure you have extra yarn on hand. Or if you would like to stay in 1 skein yardage you’ll need to have gauge as close as possible to pattern gauge, don’t forget to block your swatch.
Circular needles size US 8 (5 mm) length 16” and optional length 24”
Markers (1 magenta, 2 blue, 3 red)

Skills:
You’ll need to know how to knit and purl, simple knit and purl decreases, right and left lifted increases, German short rows
Size:
One size, finished size - circumference on the top 20” (51 cm), length from top to bottom in front 11.5” (29 cm) and from top to bottom on the back 5” (13 cm)
Gauge:
16 sts and 28 rows = 4” (10 cm) in slightly blocked 2x2 rib stitch
26 sts and 26 rows = 4” (10 cm) in smocking stitch pattern
