Smyga mitts
With code “4 for 3” you will get one free pattern of your choice, pay for 3 and get 4 patterns, starting 5th of September 2019.
This is one of my favourites, love the way the mitt wraps my hand.
It is a simple - but effective ribbed textured stitch pattern and elegant thumb increases, quickly knitted into fingerless mitts. It is a very stretchy stitch pattern that will hug your hands. The pattern is designed for small quantities of beautiful sock yarn/fingering weight yarns. Instructions are written for magic loop, and a tight gauge, to show the textured pattern best. The pattern is hand agnostic, no left or right configuration, both mitts worked the same way.
Materials needed:
Yarn: About 40 grams of a multicoloured or speckled fingering yarn (MC) and 20 grams of a solid, semi-solid or tonal fingering yarn (CC).
Needles: Circular needles size 2.25 - 2.5 mm/US 1-1.5 or the size needed to meet gauge. Needle conversion charts vary so use the needle size that gives you the correct gauge. The pattern is written for circular needles but could be adapted to DPNS or 2 circular needles.
You will also need 2 stitch markers and 2 safety pins or waste yarn for holding thumb stitches.
Gauge: 8 sts =1 inch/ 2.5 cm in unstretched stockinette stitch.
Row Gauge: 11 rows = 1 inch/ 2.5 cm in unstretched stockinette stitch.
Sizes: The stitch pattern is very stretchy, kind of a rib, and there are 2 sizes available:
XS/S 48 sts, M/L 56 sts.
Length is 23 cm for both sizes.
Width XS/S approx. 7 cm/2.75” unstretched, but stretches to a maximum of 11 cm/4.3”.
Width M/L is about 8 cm/3.2” unstretched, but stretches to a maximum of 12 cm/4.7 inches”. Note Sizes are written for Wollmeise pure/twin, that is a plump fingering weight yarn, if you use a skinnier yarn (like many sock yarns) adjust your size, check gauge to find out.
The pattern is written in English and test knitted by the skilled knitters MargiBorck TLC and Kcook07 and you can check out their projects as well.
