Small enough to fit in a palm and taking up little space on a desk, these little guys would be perfect mascots to bring good luck in the Year of the Snake.

The snake needs no wire for its coiled pose - all shaping is built right into the crochet fabric. No turned rows or tall stitches, so nothing breaks the smooth single crochet surface. And while the contrast color belly is built in, the only actual color change is in one of the lanterns, the snake requires none!

Size
About 7.5 cm (3”) tall if made with DK yarn, 9 cm (3 ½”) tall with worsted weight (but height also depends on how tightly you arrange the coils).

Tools and materials
~ DK or worsted weight yarn in 4 colors (snake’s back, snake’s belly, red, and gold)
~ crochet hook: 2.75mm/US size C if using DK yarn, 3.5mm/size E for worsted (or size that gives you a tight, no-gaps fabric)
~ black plastic eyes: 6mm for DK yarn, 7.5mm for worsted
~ fiberfill stuffing
~ 5 stitch markers, pair of scissors, pair of tweezers, yarn needle

Difficulty
This pattern is suitable for intermediate level crocheters, who are confident with basic stitches (ch, sl st, sc, hdc, sc2tog, working in BLO/FLO) and frequently used amigurumi techniques (invisible decrease).

The pattern is written in English using US crochet terminology (UK/Aus equivalents provided). It contains many in-progress photos, but also includes a text-only appendix for easy printing, if you prefer working from a printed pattern but want to save ink and paper.

Finished amigurumi made from this pattern are yours to keep or gift or sell, I only ask you to credit me as the designer in case you decide to sell them.
