Snefnug
Snefnug (snowflake) reminds me of my favourite children’s book: Ronia Robber’s daughter by Astrid Lindgren. In Ronia’s Scandinavia, snowflakes are found in abundance. And that comes handy in winter, when the robbers wash themselves in the snow. I always pictured vivid scenes of the book but when the film came out in 1984, this was quite a spectacle! As a child I too was a little Ronia, getting lost in the forest and speaking with the trolls. These little snefnugs are my tribute to snow in all its beautiful shapes. I hope you will enjoy making them.
These snowflakes are a quick make and perfect little gifts!
Gauge:
Gauge is not important for this project. I recommend playing with yarns and hooks to make different sizes.
Yarn:
√ For main body: #2 Sport weight (5 ply/12wpi) yarn: 5g/12m/13yds (MC)
√ For contrast: #2 Sport weight (5 ply/12wpi) yarn: 2g/5m/13yds (CC)
√ You can vary with yarn weights from crochet thread to dk. Cotton, acrylic, linen, bamboo and viscose are all good options for these ornaments.
√ The samples used Phildar Canelis (67% acrylic, 33% viscose: shiny white, and used scrap cottons for the contrasting colours.
√ Silver and gold yarns make for extra shiny Christmas ornaments, a possible yarn choice could be Disco Down from Wool and the Gang.
