Snæfellsjökull (literally “snow-fell-glacier”) is situated on the most western part of the Snæfellsnes peninsula in Iceland. When the weather is clear, it may be seen from the city of Reykjavík over Faxa Bay, at a distance of 120 km 75 miles beeline.

The mountain is quite famous internationally, as it appears as the entrance to a passage leading to the centre of the earth in one of Jules Verne’s most beloved novels Journey to the Centre of the Earth, published in 1864.

The Snæfellsjökull-cardigan, which is worked seamlessly top down, is inspired by the majestic sight of the glacier. Both peaks symbolize the two-part neckband and shoulders, where the stitches for the back are picked up. The glacier itself with its ridges is represented by the yoke with a delicate twisted stitch pattern. After dividing body and sleeves, you will be knitting down in stockinette stich, while increases continue to add to the A-line shape.
