The Snippet Socks were inspired by interpreting traditional patchwork as contemporary knitting stitch patterns.

Knitting and quilting have both been a big part of my creative life for a long time…in fact, the quilts came first! I have a lot of happy memories of working on quilt projects with my family, starting in my early years.

That nostalgic, cosy sense of togetherness feels like a natural match for something as wholesome as handknit socks.

This sock design is a sister pattern to the Fragment Socks and shares the same references.

The Snippet Socks are knit from the top down, beginning with a simple 1x1 twisted rib cuff which flows into a front panel featuring two textured chevron “snippets” bordered by decorative columns down to the toe.

I’ve finished the socks with a heel flap and gusset and a wedge toe, or you can substitute your own favourites if desired. The pattern includes 2 sizes, with fully written instructions in my Percentage Checklist style and charts.

The instructions are written for the magic loop method, but you can use DPNs if you prefer.

The Snippet Socks were originally published in Laine Magazine’s book 52 Weeks of Socks in 2020.
