Snood

The term snood is used for two different things:

  1. often netted, they were historically used to hold women’s hair in place. These do not go round the neck. This is covered in ravelry by the category “Other headwear - snood”.
  2. the name may also refer to a type of cowl, wide enough to be pulled up over the head to form a hood.

This snood is of the second type. It is shown top right on the cover of the pamphlets. After casting off, the piece is folded in half lengthways and the row ends are joined together.
