The Snow Bunny Mittens are a simple, classic pair of bulky weight mittens that are cute, cozy and perfect for winter! They are designed with a teddy bulky yarn for the main mitten, and a non-teddy yarn for the ribbed cuff. You could use any bulky weight yarn (or strands held together to match bulky weight), but I would recommend using something with some teddy/fuzz/fluff for the main mitten section to get that ultra cozy factor! This mitten pattern is offered in 5 different size options.

Sizes offered:
1 (2, 3, 4) 5

Hand Circumference of approximately:
6.75 (7.5, 8, 8.5) 9.25 inches / 17 (19, 20, 21) 23 cm
See schematic/measurement tables (in photos) for further measurements.

Note: The sizes reflect the FINISHED hand circumference measurements in inches / cm of the mittens. To determine the size you wish to knit, measure your hand around the middle of your palm (above and not including your thumb) and choose the size that is closest to that measurement. I recommend you choose a size where the measurement of the circumference of your palm is about 0.5-1 inches / 1.25-2.5 cm smaller than the stated measurements, depending on your preference for fitted/or looser mitts. The length of the mittens is customizable based on your hand length so only base your size on the circumference. My sample was Size 2 for a 7” hand circumference.

Needles recommended:
6 mm / US 10 / UK 4
Circular needles with approximately 40 inch / 100 cm cord for magic loop (or DPNs)

Gauge:
Gauge should be worked in the round, blocked but unstretched.
Stockinette: 13 sts x 20 rounds = 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm)
1 x 1 ribbing: 17 sts x 20 rounds = 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm)

Make sure to block your swatch in the same method as you plan to block the finished mittens (ex. Steam vs wet blocked), as this can significantly change the size of your swatch depending on your fiber choice.

Note: If your stitch count is correct for gauge but round count is a bit off in either direction, continue using this needle size, but keep in mind you may need to adjust your length by adding/removing rounds.

Yarn recommended:
Bulky weight yarn (or DK held double/any yarn combination that can match a bulky gauge)
I used the same colourway for my initial sample, with the cuffs knit with DK held double, and the main mitten knit with a teddy bulky. You could also use the same bulky for the whole mitten, or use contrasting colours. I also made a second sample using DK Boucle yarn held double for the entire mitten.

Sample #1:
Cuff - Treehouse Knits Dove DK held double (246 yds/100 g) - White Sands
Main Mitten - Treehouse Knits Baobab Bulky (131 yds/100 g) - White Sands

Sample #2:
Sewrella Yarn Boucle DK held double (24 yds/100 g) - Snow Drift

Yardage recommended:
Size: Yardage - Cuff (1 strand bulky) / Yardage - Cuff (2 strands DK) / Yardage - Main mitten
1: 16 / 32 / 49
2: 20 / 40 / 61
3: 22 / 44 / 69
4: 27 / 54 / 81
5: 29 / 58 / 92

Size: Meters - Cuff (1 strand bulky) / Meters - Cuff (2 strands DK) / Meters - Main mitten
1: 15 / 29 / 45
2: 18 / 37 / 56
3: 20 / 40 / 63
4: 25 / 49 / 74
5: 27 / 53 / 84

Note: Estimates are for both mittens, and are based on standard recommended hand lengths and circumference. You may need a bit more/less yardage if you need to adjust the hand length. Bulky yarn can vary quite a bit with thickness and yardage, so your yardages may be a bit different if you are using different yarn than my samples.
