Snow Peaks Beret
This design was inspired by berets exported from Iceland in the 1960’s and 70’s. The interesting top patterning sometimes was called north star. It reminds me of snow on mountain peaks, and for this design I combined it with a small snowflake pattern.
Three colors of Lopi were used, and although this shaping is not traditional to Iceland, the yarn is. This lofty Icelandic wool creates a warm, lightweight hat that repels rain and snow.
The beret is knit in the round without shaping to the crown where a special k2tog is worked to start the swirl patterning. It is finished with a hatband worked in single crochet over elastic cord to customize the fit. Instructions include an optional button to top the beret.
