The Snow Scene Winter Tree is a knitted decorative homeware inspired by the ethereal and dramatic textures of the costumes in this scene of the Nutcracker Ballet. The ruffles knit in two strands of silk mohair give the tree a whimsical, fluffy, and glowing appearance, capturing the magic and nostalgia of the winter season.

The tree is knit from the base up with decreases and “set up” rows to shape the cone toward the apex. Stitches are picked up from the set up rows and knitted to shape the ruffles.

Since this project uses such small amounts of yarn and knits up very quickly, you can play around with making trees of different sizes, colors, and textures or even adding beads for a decorated tree!

Suggested considerations for making the tree larger are included as notes at relevant sections throughout the pattern.
