Special Notes:

  • Construct It: constructed like an orange peel spiral! You begin with a single stitch and increase while working in pattern. Once the tail is long enough, the piece is joined into a circle. As you continue to work a long tail, you connect the sts to the completed portion forming the cowl (or headband) completely seamlessly. The cowl and headband are wider in one section than the other allowing for full nose and ear coverage on arctic clime days! Or on less stormy winter days, wear the cowl with the short side facing for a comfy “just below the chin height” fit.
  • Color It: have fun with color! The headband is shown knit in Moonflower with the optional crochet detail added in Lupine. The cowl starts with Lupine and works 3 loops, then transitions to Moonflower for the next 3 loops. The optional crochet is only added to the base and top in contrasting colors.
  • Yarn It: yarn requirements depend upon yarn weight and size knit with this customizable pattern. In order to ensure enough yarn for the declension, pause at the join in the round, weigh your item, and make sure to save that amount of yarn for the declension.
  • Measure It: due to the double thickness of the stitch, make sure you take the circumference measurements along the inside of the piece.
  • Watch It: check out the Knit Eco Chic Snow Trekking vlogs showing the join, declension, and optional edging (link in pattern).
  • Navigate It: pattern directions and repeats are on page 3 and workflow diagram is on page 4.
