Snowballs
This is a fun pattern to make 3D snowballs. They’re solid enough to throw, but soft enough not to hurt, so they’re perfect for all ages, including babies. They’re a great way to have a snowball fight indoors when it’s too cold outside, or in climates where there’s no snow. Make several dozen and have a snowball fight with your friends. They make a great gift.
The pattern has written instructions, schematics, and photos. Once you understand the pattern, you can print just pages 1 and 3 (written directions) for a smaller reference.
There’s no real gauge. The pattern can be made with a single strand of super-bulky weight and 9.0mm hook, two strands of chunky weight and 7.0mm hook, or a strand of chunky and worsted together and 6.5mm hook. Each weight will make a slightly different sized snowball.
You can mix plain white with a glittery white to give your snowballs a little sparkle. As they’re meant to be thrown, machine washable yarn is best. Store them in a zippered laundry bag for easy cleaning. For summer fun, make them out of cotton, soak them in water, and have a “water balloon” fight without the bits of balloon to pick up later.
