This hat was created by blending the traditional snowflake used in stranded colorwork Nordic knitwear, with the graphic and simple lines of modern scandinavian design.

Snowden hat is knit from the bottom up, in the round. The stranded colorwork pattern is easily remembered and does not require managing long floats. The pattern features instructions for two brim versions (simple and folded), using a total of 2 or 3 colors. Written to be worked with circular needles, it can be easily adaptable to DPN’s.

SIZE:
Circumference: one size, to fit a head of 52 to 58 cm / 20.5 to 22.75 ’’
Lengths: 1 (2). Both lenghts are intended to give a fitted beanie.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: (after blocking)
Circumference: 46.5 cm / 18 ’’
Length - simple brim: 20 (22) cm / 8 (8.5) ’’
Lenght - folded brim: 25.5 (27.5) cm / 10 (10.75) ’’

GAUGE:
31 sts x 35 rnds to 10 cm / 4” on larger needles in stranded colorwork pattern worked in the round, after blocking.

NEEDLES: (suggested needle sizes)
2.5 mm / US 1.5 and 3.25 mm / US 3 circular needles or DPN’s needles, or size to obtain gauge.

YARN & YARDAGE:
Fingering weight yarn (about 365 to 400 m / 400 to 437 yds in 100 g)

2 colors version:
MC (dark blue) : approx. 134 (147) m / 146 (160) yds
CC1 (beige) : approx. 60 (70) m / 66 (77) yds

3 colors version:
MC (white) : approx. 90 (102) m / 99 (112) yds
CC1 (dark grey) : approx. 60 (70) m / 66 (77) yds
CC2 - brim color (teal) : approx. 44 (44) m / 48 (48) yds

For a folded brim version, you will need approx. an extra 55 m / 60 yds in your brim color.

NOTIONS: 1+5 stitch markers, tapestry needle

DIFFICULTY LEVEL: 3/5 (long tail cast on, working in the round, ribbing, following a chart, stranded colorwork with 2 colors, increasing, decreasing)
