Snowdon Socks
The Snowdon Theatre was an Art Deco landmark in Montreal, and although its streamlined facade still remains, the interior, which is now demolished, had a glorious riot of elegant Deco elements. This design is a tribute to their vanished beauty.
I designed the Snowdon Socks with Durasport yarn from Canada’s beloved woollen mill, Briggs & Little, with a contrasting fluffy yarn, to give the socks a comfy-cosy feel. If Ginger Rogers ever had chilly toes, I hope these socks would be elegant enough for her.
Although this pattern is written for double pins, cuff-down, you can work it on circular needles, and toe-up.
The pattern is written for 64 sts, but you can customize the 8 stitch pattern repeat to 56 and 72 sts.
They’re worked on 2.5 mm/US 1.5 needles, but you can go up or down, depending on the yarn you use. I used a sport weight yarn, but this pattern would be fine in fingering weight. If you’re using Durasport or other sport weight yarn, you can use 2.75 mm needles for a less densely knit sock.
