Snowflake Girl
If you’re in the American Midwest, you’re bracing for another extreme winter. Shovel snow in style wearing this double-thick snowflake cowl!
This double-knitting project is written with the novice in mind. If you know how to knit, purl, knit in the round, and follow a color work chart, you can be successful with this project. If you’ve never double-knit before, there is a video link with a demonstration on how to do just that. One of the test knitters for this pattern had never double knit before, and she made it through this project beautifully. Another test knitter had taken a double knitting class at a yarn shop a few months before she tackled this project, and it was her very first double knitting project as well!
This cowl is written for 2 lengths - the single loop is 24” in circumference and the double loop is 48”. Both sizes are 6.75” wide. This pattern could also be done as a stranded knitting project, but done that way, it would not be reversible as it is when it is double-knit.
Gauge is 20 stitch pairs x 31 rows = 4” x 4”.
The only knowledge this pattern assumes is that the knitter can knit, purl, work in the round, do a long-tail cast-on, and follow instructions for a simple bind off. There are suggestions for a more advanced CO and BO as well, if you want to tackle a more complex project.
Many thanks to my test knitters! LTimms, herzleid, woollykim, queenbayman, & KirstenLund, thank you so much for your feedback and for creating such beautiful cowl projects!
