I used cotton thread size 8 and a 2 mm crochet hook for this snowflake motif and its final size is 8 cm (about 3 inches) in diameter. You can change the size and look of your snowflake by using a different yarn weight and hook. You will also need a needle to weave in loose ends and a pair of scissors.
If you want to stiffen the snowflakes you will need white school glue, stainless steel pins, plastic wrap and some kind of blocking board.
