Snowflake Peerie Mittens
Inspired by Shetland knitting, this design brings together snowflakes with bands of Peerie patterns. The design is suitable for two colours, or it can be knit with many more. Charts are provided for a two-colour and five-colour version but make it your own by combining as many colours as your heart desires.
Degree of Difficulty
This pattern is suitable for an intermediate knitter with some experience working with charts and knitting in the round. Designer tips are provided for those who are new to stranded colourwork.

• Decrease stitches (Slip, slip, knit and knit two together)
Size
Instructions are written for a woman’s small hand with medium and large in brackets. Instructions and alternative charts are included for those who want a shorter mitten.
Finished Measurements
Circumference around fingers: 18.0 cm/7.1 inches 19.2 cm/7.5 inches, 20.3 cm/8 inches
Bottom of cuff to top of fingers: 26.2 cm/10.3 inches 28.3 cm/11.1 inches, 30.1 cm/11.9 inches
Wrist to top of fingers: 18.6 cm/7.3 inches 20.1 cm/7.9 inches, 22.1 cm/8.7 inches
Materials
Knit Picks Palette fingering weight yarn (100% Peruvian Highland Wool, 231 yards/50 grams)
• 2-colour version: 1 ball each in Raspberry Heather (MC1), and Cream (CC1)
• 5-colour version: 1 ball each in Marine Heather (MC2), Caribbean (CC2), Wonderland Heather (CC3), Huckleberry Heather (CC4), Pennyroyal (CC5)
Needles: set of 5, 2.75 mm (US#2) double-pointed needles (DPNs); or one 2.75 mm (US#2), 100 cm (40 inch) long circular needle, if you prefer to use the Magic Loop method, or size needed to get gauge.
Tapestry needle for finishing.
Length of smooth, contrasting colour waste yarn to hold thumb stitches.
Gauge
9 stitches and 10 rows/ 2.54 cm (1 inch) over stranded pattern, knit in the round.
Knitting to the correct gauge is important to achieving the finished measurements noted above.
Note: This pattern uses 64 68, 72 stitches around the top of the hand.
