Snowman and Elf
This PDF will include both the elf and snowman knitting patterns.
For Elf:
We will be knitting on double pointed needles, in the round. To knit our elf, we will be starting at the bottom, sharply increasing, knitting the body, and then slightly decreasing for the shoulders. After we switch to our desired face yarn, we will knit the face, stuff the elf, and close up the top. The hat is also knit in the round (bottom up). The beard is knit flat, and later seamed in place. Lastly, the details are embroidered in place.
Size: Instructions are for one size, approximately 5 –7 inches tall
Yarn: Approximately 25 yards of aran weight yarn for the body and hat (I used a variety of Bernat super Value Solids aran weight)
8 yards aran weight yarn for face (I used Bernat Super Value Solids in Mushroom)
8 yards of a very fuzzy textured thick and thin type yarn for the beard (I used Patons Fuzzy Wuzzy in white)
Needles: Set of 4mm (US 6) double pointed knitting needles
Gauge: Not applicable. However, you want to achieve a fairly tight gauge so that the white polyfill stuffing does not show through the stitches after the elf is stuffed.
Other Materials:half yard length of black fingering weight yarn or embroidery thread for eyes
two 3/8 inch buttons (for the chest)
handful of polyfill stuffing for the head and body
tapestry needle
A fork (for making the pompom)
