Snowscape Cowl & Cap
The Snowscape cowl and cap are fully reversible and easy to knit because there are only knit and purl stitches -- no increases or decreases.
Snowscape Cowl is worked flat (side-to-side) on US 8/5.0mm needles; the ends are sewn together after blocking. It uses about 415 yds / 680 m of bulky yarn. Finished width is about 12” / 30 cm. Options are given for kitchener stitch / grafting to made the ends meet, or use of buttons and buttonholes. Options are also given for adjusting the cowl length and width.
Snowscape Cap is worked in the round as a cylinder (with the option to work it flat) on US 9/5.5mm needles. The top is grafted (or sewn) to make a kind of flat bag. The brim is rolled up; the top corners are folded down and secured with buttons. Instructions are given for 4 sizes: 1517, 19, 21“ / 3843, 48, 53 cm circumference. Yarn requirements: Approx 140 180, 230, 280 yds / 130 165, 210, 255m bulky yarn. Gauge is 16 sts and 22 rows = 4” / 10cm in Sand Stitch (Chart B).
A link is given for instructions on how to make Yorkshire button covers (shown on the cap, but can also be used for a button closure on the cowl).
