We were on a ski vacation for my husband’s birthday, and he had admired my recently completed Range shawl by Andrea Mowry. When a storm prevented us from skiing, I spent his birthday creating this hat for him with the leftover yarn from my shawl. Using almost exclusively knit stitches, it is fun and works up quickly-I completed it that same day! This pattern is a good springboard to color work knitting, and a nice way to use up partial skeins. The instructions will create a slouchy hat. I still had yarn left after making his hat, so made a non-slouch companion hat for myself by decreasing the number of stripe sequence repeats (see lower photo).

Yarn: Woolfolk FÅR (worsted weight) in four colors. I used colors 00, 18, 19, and 20
(I purchased mine from Loopslove.com as a Range shawl kit. Check for availability).

Tools: circular or double pointed needles in US 7, tapestry needle, stitch marker

Gauge: 18 stitches and 28 rows knit in the round (I intentionally did a tight gauge for weather resistance)

Directions are for a medium adult. Decrease by 10 for a large child and increase by ten for a large adult.
