Imagine a snowy midnight on Christmas Eve, stockings on the mantelpiece waiting for Santa to work his magic. This Christmas Stocking combines traditional motifs with a colour scheme that evokes a snowy midnight scene. It is worked in the round using the Fair Isle/stranded knitting technique in two colours, with a touch of additional colour added using duplicate stitch. And for a little sparkle, I’ve sewn a sequin to the tops of each of the fir trees.

The pattern includes detailed written instructions for the toe, heel, cuff and hanging loop; plus charts for the foot and the leg. It is knit with DK weight yarn (Hayfield Bonus DK in navy and cream) on a 3.5mm 32” circular knitting needle, with a 3.25mm 32” circular needle for the heel and cuff. The hat and scarf for the snowman are made with red DK-weight yarn, the eyes are made with black fingering-weight yarn and the nose is made with orange fingering-weight yarn.
