I can’t think of any accessory that better evokes the joy of playing outside in the snow than a classic rectangular scarf! The Snowy Vibes Scarf is perfect for warming your neck when you step outside to watch the first snowflakes of the season. It’s also a perfect project to have on the needles while curling up on the couch with your favorite holiday movies!

Colorful and slightly oversized, this scarf is worked in fingering weight yarn and consists of 31 stripes worked in 24 different colors. Each stripe is worked in one of four stitch patterns: Garter, Stockinette, lace, and Andalusian.

This pattern was designed to feature 24 mini-skeins from the 2021 Southern Skeins Sock Advent Calendar. You can use 24 colors or use a smaller number of colors and repeat them throughout the scarf. Build a color palette that complements your favorite cold weather outfits, or use this as an opportunity to go wild with stash busting scraps of yarn!

This pattern includes both written and charted instructions.

Size: Width is approximately 14.5 in / 37 cm. Length is approximately 90 in / 229 cm. The final measurements will vary based on how gently or aggressively you choose to block.

Yarn: The sample uses 24 Southern Skeins Sock Advent Calendar mini-skeins 92 yds / 84 m each (75% Superwash Merino, 25% Nylon; 0.35 oz / 10 g). If you’re using other yarn, you will need 24 different colors of fingering weight yarn of up to 92 yds / 84 m each.

If your gauge closely matches the sample gauge, you should have a bit of yarn left over from each skein; however, Page 22 contains suggestions for how to modify the size of stripes if your gauge is a bit different. Additionally, Page 22 also lists a few ideas for how to use up the leftover bits of yarn while completing your scarf.

Gauge: Approximately 22 sts / 34 rows to 4” / 10 cm in blocked Stockinette Stitch pattern. Exact gauge is not critical for this pattern as long as you are comfortable with the resulting fabric and size of the scarf. I recommend blocking enough to show off the lace stripes to their full potential.

Needles: Size US 3 / 3.25 mm needles, or whatever attains gauge
