The first Snug has been a succes, but could do with some more sizes and in bulky yarn was just a bit heavy for some. Plus, there’s more choice in superwash yarns in this range. So, now there are more sizes, plus this lighter version in worsted yarn, coming in 4 sizes as well.

There’s an e-book available that includes both versions.

Snug is a simple baby and toddler cardigan, knit in squishy garter stitch. The pattern is designed in one piece, there’s just some seaming at the shoulders and neck.

The clever construction may seem fiddly to some, for others it offers an opportunity to learn some handy techniques, while being an entertaining knit for the more advanced.

Garter stitch knitted sideways makes for a very stretchy fabric, so it should fit for quite a while, as a jacket keeping the baby snug in it’s hood.

Vertical rows continue seamless into the arms and hood, making this a nice and simple looking garment.

As for the finishing, the only seams are at the shoulder and back of neck, done with a pretty invisible seaming. Diagram and links to techniques used are included in the pattern. Also a size diagram is available.

Note: this pattern is for the somewhat experienced knitter, since it does require you to know or learn some techniques like provisional cast on, and grafting. Links to how-to’s are provided in the pattern.

---- Worsted version (17 sts / 10 cm) -----

Gauge
17 sts x 32 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4”x4”) in garter stitch.

Sizes
Newborn to 6 months (1 year, 2 years, 3 years), resulting in final chest circumference 50 (60, 70, 80) cm (20(24, 28, 32) inch).

Yardage
375 (475, 650, 775) meters (410 (520, 710, 850) yards) of Cascade 220, Garnstudio Drops Karisma, or any yarn giving gauge. Worsted to DK would work.

----Errata & updates-----------------------------------

April 2 2014*

Yardage was miscalculated, pattern needs less yarn than called for eventually. PDF was corrected.
