So Long
So Long is a labour of love. It is long and snug and soft and meant to be treasured for a long time. I started making it for my Mum, Maggie - but unfortunately didn’t finish it before she passed away from cancer so it is in her memory and all profits will go to Marie Curie Cancer Care who were wonderful to my Mum. Please see my blog post for further details.
So Long is a wrap or very wide scarf (you can wear it round your neck very cosily!) which drapes over the arms or around the body and is constructed with continuous welts which create an extra squishy, cosy feel. The wrap is knit on the bias in a parallelogram shape with an ever increasing distance between the welts - the distance then decreases again as you knit to the end.
The pattern includes instructions for knitting a one-colour version and a multi-colour version with an I-cord edging. Instructions for creating the welt and the I-cord are included in the pattern.
Yarn
The yarn I have chose is 4 ply and means this wrap is a real labour of love as the welts also add to the knitting - however, it is so worth it when you get to the end and wrap it around yourself like a hug. If you don’t think you can commit to such a project, you could always substitute a thicker yarn and reduce the number of rows in the middle.
The multi-colour version requires 6 X 50g Drops Alpaca Shade 2916 (Dark Lime), 4 X 50g Drops Alpaca Shade 2919 (Teal) and 1 X 50g Drops Alpaca 2915 (Orange). The single colour version requires 10 X 50g Drops Alpaca Shade 7120 (Light Greyish Green).
