While vending at Edinburgh Yarn Festival this past March, I had a conversation with Lola of Third Vault Yarns and Sam of KnitRunDig Project Bags. We had previously talked about doing a kit together, but hadn’t come up with a theme. Rachel of Porpoise Fur suggested Battlestar Galactica and the collaboration was born.
The Design – Most of this sock is purled to better show off the rest of the design. The primary motif is the Battlestar Galactica logo with a simple cable on each side to represent the FTL Drive which propels the ships through space.
Grab your yarn and needles. Happy Knitting! So say we all!

These socks are knit using the magic loop method (although the purchaser could easily adapt it for two circulars or double points).
This pattern includes toe-up instructions.
Judy’s Magic Cast On and Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off are used in this pattern.
The knitter needs to be comfortable with the following techniques: knit, purl, knit through the back loop (ktbl), purl through the back loop (ptbl), M1RP, M1LP, slipped stitches, cables, and wrap and turns (W+T). Instructions for all these techniques are included in the pattern. In addition, a video tutorial for the shadow wrap technique of W+T for short rows has been recorded by the designer.
This pattern includes instructions in both written and chart forms for 56 stitch, 64 stitch, and 72 stitch socks.
I’d like to express my immense gratitude to the creators of Battlestar Galactica for their entertaining work. This design would never have been possible without their inspiration.
Huge thanks to my amazing test knitters: Andrea (angeiship), Celeste (celeste, Cristy (cristyray), Katie (knitcrazykate), Kim (Napiersknits), & Tracy (tmangil). ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Pattern was tech edited by the phenomenal Rachel (porpoise) ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Sample was knit by the brilliant Dami (damisdoodles) ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
