This hat has everything! Polar bears, leaping stags, snowflakes, folk-art roosters, and matryoshka dolls!

It does take patience to complete as there are sometimes more than two strands of color to carry along, but it’s otherwise a simple and straightforward process. Straight up stocking stitch on circular needles and a row-by-row chart to follow.

I made my prototype just a bit too small (pictured) on size US 2.0 circular needles so I do suggest you go up to 3.0 or even 3.25 to create a hat with a brim of 22 to 22.5 inches. Remember, stranded work is generally not very stretchy side to side and you must try to leave your strands as loose as possible. Even then, they tend to tighten up!

As for yarn needed, one ball of each of the light and dark blue and grey and white will suffice, I used just over half a ball of each. The little bit of green and red involved, and the tiny bit of yellow should all be scraps from your stash. I used some worsted weight for these smaller amounts because that’s what I had on hand.

For clarity and ease of use, the pattern runs across three landscape pages, just print and tape together!
