This is a really basic, simple hat construction. You can certainly follow the fun, stashbusting stripe instructions, or you can just use this pattern as a basic structure for a slouch hat made with any fingering-weight yarn.

If you like this pattern, check out the matching Scrunchy Ombre Arm Warmers pattern, available from Knit Picks as either a single PDF download or as part of the Under 100 Knit Collection book and ebook.

You can use tiny balls of leftover sock yarn to whittle away at your stash. If you have a small kitchen scale, simply weigh a pile of up to 50 grams of sock yarn, and you’ll know you have enough.

We’re having a knitalong over in the Aknitica Designs group for the matching arm warmers, but feel free to join us and show us your hats, too! It’s a great place to talk over colour choices and give the rest of us inspiration. :)

The colours used in my sample are Knit Picks Palette in
Turmeric,
Pimento,
Fairy Tale,
Garnet Heather,
Currant,
Urchin,
Bittersweet Heather,
Sky,
Turmeric (again),
Edamame,
and Whirlpool.
