This is a typed up and completed version of the hand written pattern given to me from my grandmother’s patterns and it is entitled ‘Air Force sock pattern’. From conversations with other family members it’s 99.9% certain that this pattern originated in WWII.

My gran made a pair of these socks for my very active Dad, who has described them as the best socks he’s ever had. These are very simple, sturdy and warm and while the original pattern is for knee length socks only, I have adapted the pattern to include an ankle length version.

The pattern comes in 2 versions, a scan of my gran’s original pattern and a more thorough, typed up version (with some of the gaps filled in)

BE WARNED THOUGH, before embarking on this project, you should be aware that 1 single sock contains about 15,000 sts!

We don’t know who the original designer or publisher is. If you know, then please tell me as it would be nice to give credit to the designer if possible.
