Een tijdje geleden werd ik gevraagd of ik voor de maandelijkse samenbreisok van Sokkenbreien nog eens een sok wilde ontwerpen. Ik kreeg een lijst waarop de maanden stonden met hun thema’s en technieken. Ik ging voor April 2022.
Thema: vakvrouwschap
Techniek: travelling stitches

Vakvrouwen. Als ik aan een echt vrouwenberoep denk, is dit het eerste waaraan ik denk. En dit is, naar mijn mening, ook het meest omvattende beroep. Al is het eigenlijk meer een roeping dan een beroep. Deze vrouwen zijn lerares, chef-kok, verpleegster, therapeut, pedagoog, politieagent, planner, chauffeur, cheerleader enz. enz. enz. samengevat in 1 woord: Moeder! Dit is ook het beroep dat ik opgeef als men mij vraagt wat mijn beroep is. Ik zocht dus iets om “moeder” weer te geven. En daarvoor zijn zoveel mogelijkheden!

Voor de meer gevorderde sokkenbrei(st)ers: Ik ben van mening dat alle informatie die je nodig hebt om een patroon te breien, ook in dat patroon moet staan. Je moet een patroon kunnen breien zonder internet te moeten gebruiken of een wandelende brei-encyclopedie te zijn. Mijn patronen zijn dus vrij uitgebreid. Haal de benodigde informatie eruit en sla de rest maar over ☺.

A while ago I was asked if I would design a sock for the monthly sock for the Dutch group Sokkenbreien on Ravelry. I got a list with the themes and the techniques divided over the months. I chose April 2022. The theme was female professions / professionals and the technique was travelling stitches.

Female professions. Now this is the absolute first one that comes to mind when I think of these. And, in my opinion, it is also the most comprehensive off all of the professions. It is more of a calling than a profession come to think of it. These women are teachers, chefs, nurses, therapist, educators, police officers, planners, chauffeurs, cheerleaders etc. etc. etc. summed up in 1 word: Mum! When I am asked what my profession is, this is my answer. I am a mum. So I needed to find something that says “Mum”.

Advanced sock knitters: In my opinion, any pattern should contain all of the information you need to knit that particular pattern. You should be able to knit the whole pattern without having to use the internet or being a walking knitting encyclopedia. As a result my patterns are quite extensive. Take what you need and skip the other bits ☺.
