Socks From the Heel Out
At first glance these socks look like ordinary socks. However, the method used to make them is anything but ordinary. They are knit starting with the heel!
The end result is a regular sock (seamless) but it is constructed in a different order.
Besides being fun, knitting from the heel out has practical reasons as well. It is also possible to try on both the foot and the leg with the heel in place, taking the guess work out of the length of both. Say goodbye to a tight cast on edge at the cuff. The leg is worked from the heel up so you use the stretchy bind off just like toe up socks. Also, the knitting can be pulled back from either end for easy re-knit if a serious repair becomes necessary in the future.
