Socks of Ceylon were knit while cycling around on the island of Sri Lanka (formerly called Ceylon). They are a mock cable technique using increases and decreases rather than a cable needle and a toe-up construction making the pattern symmetric and easily committed to memory.

Techniques
Ability to understand charts, work in the round and short rows for toe and heel. This pattern is knit toe up but is easily adaptable to your favourite top down sock construction. Simply use the chart with your favourite toe and heel.

Suggested Yarn
Any sockweight yarn. Shown above: Sericin Silkworks Mink Merino Silk Laceweight available at www.sericin.etsy.com and Shall We Knit? Waterloo Ontario Pictured socks were knit in small size, 2.25mm needles, 11 pattern row repeats. Finished circumference 16.5cm or 6.5”. Finished length 38cm or 15”. One skein used 300m.

Suggested Needle Size
2.0 mm to 2.5mm according to gauge and size. 5 double pointed needles or 2 circular needles as preferred. Stitch markers if needed.
