Södermalm Light
The inspiration for this hat came from the cobble stone streets, unique stone buildings, and the architectural interest of a densely populated area perched atop of Mariaberget (Maria Mountain) on Södermalm, an island in the center of Stockholm.
With a mixture of buildings dating back to the 1700s as well as some more recent additions, the Northern shore of Södermalm is visually interesting with it’s sheer cliff that drops from the mountain top to the water as well as it’s castle-like buildings that appear to be built into the mountain side.
I wanted to create a hat that could portray some of these different lines and textures through stranded colorwork. This hat incorporates two contrasting colors, which portray the windows and cobblestones that can be found on Södermalm today.
