This is an easy-to-make textured crochet cowl with a step-by-step picture tutorial on how to make it in US terms.

The Soft Stripes Cowl pattern might be one of the easiest pieces you will make. This unisex crochet cowl is worked flat in rows and seamed after completion. The instructions are simple and straightforward. It can easily be adjusted for whatever length or width you desire. The sizes provided here make it possible to stretch it and use it as a hoody if necessary. You can easily finish it without picot stitches, or make it shorter and narrower to suit your wishes.

The result will be textured and wonderfully cozy neck warmer, perfect for keeping the chill off your neck in colder months.

There are only five different stitches used through the pattern – double crochet (DC), half double crochet (HDC) – back loop only, single crochet (SC), slip stitch (SLST), and the picot stitch (picot ST).
The cowl shown here is 40cm / 15.7 inches long and its circumference is 55cm / 21.6 inches (without stretching).
To obtain this size, check the gauge: 15 stitches and 7 dc rows = 109cm / 43.5 inches using a 5mm hook (US H-8 hook).
The yarn I used was 120g of Alize superlana klasik yarn (25% wool, 75% acrylic, 280m/307yds), or 336m / 368 yards for this particular product.

If you wish to make it in a size other than the one given here, check the gauge and calculate the number of stitches per row you need. Everything else can be left as is and you will have your perfectly textured, soft cowl. You can also use any yarn in any color you want.

Note: this cowl is designed to be super soft and stretchy. To achieve this, you have to check the tension of your stitches. If it is too tight, choose a larger hook. It will help your stitches be loose enough to be comfortable to wear.
