Hook
Authentic: US D/3 (UK 3mm)
Alternative: US E/4 (UK 3.5mm)
Caron Simply Soft is a Worsted weight yarn. I used a 3.5mm hook for this to achieve a tighter fabric. Tighter is better as this prevents fibrefill stuffing from coming through. A smaller hook is better for this type of project.
Gauge
Authentic Version
11 sts x 11 rows = 5x5cm (2x2in) over single crochet using a 3mm hook or size needed to obtain stated tension
Alternative Version
10 sts x 10 rows = 5x5cm (2x2in) over single crochet using 3.5mm hook or size needed to obtain stated tension
As this is not a garment that requires accurate tension, do not worry too much if your crochet comes out smaller.
Other Supplies
Fibrefill Toy Stuffing
Sewing needle to sew in ends
Scissors
Stitch marker (Start using a stitch maker on rnd 2).
25cm full rounded polystyrene wreath
Small metal ring with a hook for the very top of the mobile
The planets are all very straight forward once you get in the zone. The Earth takes a little bit more concentration with the colour changes but is also very quick to make. This mobile is perfect for any space loving kid or adult.
