It’s not often that you’ll find such an extraordinary laceweight shawl that can be made in such easy crochet stitches. You can try Solaris with the new Spring colors available in Knit Picks Shadow laceweight. You will love that you’ll be able to crochet this beauty in as little as 20 hours. With its unusual handkerchief hem, no one will ever know that you could have it finished in a weekend! Included with pattern: Written instructions and lace crochet stitch diagrams.
I’ve named this wrap Solaris because of the dramatic hem, giving an illusion of rays of sun. And the colorway, Copper Pennies, gives the look of hot, melted metal. An absolutely stunning shawl, just in time for the holiday season!
This shawl starts with a triangle base worked from the top down in a very easy, quickly-memorized stitch pattern. The varied point hemline is added afterward. It requires approximately 20 hours to complete.
This design may look complicated, but it’s really quite easy. I have used very easy stitches (chain, single crochet and double crochet) to complete this entire wrap. The laceweight yarn is very tiny, but it is made very easy to work with in this design because I’ve used a larger than average hook, an F hook, which allows for much more movement and flexibility. The complex-looking lace is not made with complicated stitches. It is made by using a larger than average size hook with the particular size of yarn.
The wrap is made from 100% silk by Claudia Hand Painted. Claudia Hand Painted Silk Lace is available in 1100 yard hanks and I have used approximately 1000 yards. Just one hank of gorgeous, shiny, smooth, 100% silk will give you this stunning masterpiece to treasure for many years to come.
After blocking, this shawl measures approximately 72” across the top and 35” from top to bottom point.
