Sole e Stelle Wrap
This is an intricate lace stole with an elongated hexagonal shape that can be worn as a scarf, shawl, or wrap. The design calls for both strung and placed beads, which are, of course, optional.
The design began to take shape when my brother announced his engagement to a fabulous woman. I knew I needed to make her a fabulous accessory to wear for their wedding. After reviewing every lace pattern in the four Barbara Walker Treasuries, I chose three motifs to combine into this stole. The first I chose was Starlight Lace, which is elegant and beautiful, especially when a bead is placed in the center. I then fell in love with Sunspots. The combination brought to mind “Sun and Stars,” the term of endearment used between Khal Drogo and Daenarys Stormborn in Game of Thrones, which felt appropriate for a wedding garment between two lovers of the novels and television series. For the edging, I chose a motif that looks like ivy leaves as it is knit and like hearts when turned upside down. The yarnover picot edging was just begging for some extra bling, which is provided by strung Czech beads which catch the light beautifully.
I knit Katie’s stole with SpaceCadet Luna, a cobweb weight yarn named with the Italian translation of Moon. The name of this stole comes from translating Sun and Stars back into Italian. Any cobweb or lace weight yarn that can stand up to vigorous blocking could be used for this stole.
