Soleie A vintage cardigan
This pattern is included in my new e-book “6 cardigan
is - tested” which is available at an amazing price: 11.95Euros. It contains a collection of 6 lovely patterns, all different and all tested:)
Construction The Soleie vintage cardigan is completely seamless. The body is worked flat and bottom-up in one piece to the underarms where work is divided for back and fronts. Shoulders are worked from WS using the 3-needle bind-off method. Sleeves are worked top-down from picked up sts along the armopenings. Sleevecap is created by short-rows worked back and forth. Sleeve is worked in-the-round from underarms to bind-off. Perfect for choosing sleeve-length:) Buttonbands and neckline are worked from picked-up sts.
You could easily modify the pattern to your taste by adding length to body and/or sleeves, work a higher or lower neckline, add more or less (or none) buttons….. Count for more wool if adding length…
Sizes The pattern comes in 10 sizes. Finished bust-measurements are 31/33/35/37/39/41/43/45/47/49”. For a fitted look choose the size close to your personal measurements or a little below.
Yarn and yardage. I used Sirdar’s Cotton DK to work the cardigan. This yarn comes in balls of 100gr/3.53oz and 212m/232yards. You will need 4/4/5/5/5/5/6/6/6/6 balls of this specific yarn to work the cardigan. You can choose another DK weight as long as you stay true to gauge. Take a look at my testers choices of yarn!
Needles and notions You need to choose needle size to obtain gauge! The following sizes are a suggestion only:
1 circular needle, 80cm/32” size 3mm/US2.5 for the ribbed hem., neckline and buttonbands.
1 circular needle, 80cm/32” size 3.5mm/US4 for the main body
1 circular needle 40cm/16” size 3.5mm/US4 for the sleeve cap
Dpn’s or circular needle size 3.5mm/US4 for the sleeve from underarms to the ribbed hem
Dpn’s or circular needle size 3mm/US2.5 for the ribbed hem of the sleeves.
- Buttons 0.8cm/0.3” across, removable stitchmarkers, separate holders, rowcounter, scrapyarn.
Gauge 24 sts and 32 rows in stockinette st = 10x10cm/4x4”
Use needle size to obtain gauge!
The pattern This is a tested pattern. The pattern comes with a schematic with measurements, the lace is charted as well as written row-by-row. All necessary stitch-counts are given. Measurements are in cm’s as well as inches.
Knitting skills Level: intermediate. You need to be able to work simple lace following a chart and/or written instructions, picking up of sts. Underarms and shoulders are worked together from WS using the 3-needle bind-off or grafting/kitchener. (you might also cast off these sts and seam them together).
The abbreviations used are: yo, ssk, k2tog, k1tbl, p1tbl, sl2(as if to k2tog)k1psso. If working the waist-shaping: m1l, m1r.
A huge thank you to my lovely, skilfull testers:
