Solitude 2020
Updated pattern correction 11/17. In text box for Basic Square. It is numbered by odd number rows, until R32. R32 should be odd row 33 etc.
Materials:
1200 yards of Main Color (MC) (actual yardage for model was 1050)
1200 yards of Contrasting Colors (CC) (actual yardage for model was 1050)
Each square takes about 28 yards total (14 MC and 14 CC)
Model used Sport Weight Scheepjes Color Pack for Contrasting Colors and Scheepjes Stone Washed (Black Onyx) for Main Color.
Size: before blocking 78” (point to point) x 17.5”, after blocking is 88” (point to point) x 20”. Each Square measures 4.5x4.5”, 6” point to point.
Gauge: Really is a non-issue but will make a difference in yardage used. My gauge is 6sts per inch.
One square is taking 14 yards of main color and 14 yards of contrasting color, (28 yards total). I am using one main color throughout the wrap for unity. My square measures approximately 4.5 x 4.5” (unblocked), and about 6” on the diagonal. You could use any size yarn and appropriate needle. You could make a blanket or pillow, etc. You just add squares until you want to finish! Keep in mind that when you block it, it will grow. I found when I was done, blocking was really not necessary. Totally optional. This is a great way to use up your leftover yarns.
There are no seams in mitered square construction. You pick up stitches as you go. You will however need to weave in LOTS of ends.
The MC is all in garter stitch (This is the texture you see in wrap), the CC’s are all done in stocking stitch. It makes a beautiful square, I hope you enjoy it.
I do not have any videos out on how to do mitered squares, but there are plenty out there to help.
