I have long admired and been inspired by the distinctive knit clothing made by Oleana of Norway. These high quality, fine-gauge, machine knit garments and accessories are made of a luxurious blend of Merino and silk and designed in a wonderful array of patterns, mostly tone-on-tone florals and botanical motifs, accented with small geometric patterns, bright pops of color and fancy edgings. Solveig Hisdal, Oleana’s chief designer, is the genius behind these amazing garments. She also designs patterns for handknitting, and many knitters know her from her beautiful book, Poetry in Stitches. Seeing how she could translate her aesthetic into larger stitches inspired me to design these wristlets. They are a small tribute to Solveg Hisdal’s artistry, and an attempt to capture a bit of her unique and wonderful style.

This pattern includes written instructions, including detailed instructions for stringing and knitting in beads, and two full-color charts for the stranded colorwork (one for each colorway shown, Pink and Turquoise). You will also find notes on gauge and how to adjust the size to fit you, and descriptive color names as well as the Knit Picks Palette shades used, if you would like to knit them exactly as shown.

You will need fingering/sock weight yarn in several colors (6 if knit as shown), needles to achieve your required gauge in stranded colorwork, plus one size smaller for the edgings, at least 80 size 8 seed beads, and a beading needle and thread or a dental floss threader to string the beads on the yarn.

Solveig Wristlets are knit in the round, and are simply a tube with no shaping. You can knit them on double points, with two circulars, or with the Magic Loop method.
