Somber
So first of all, let’s talk about the shape of this thing. There was no “very, very odd” shape category option when I was uploading this pattern onto Ravelry cough Cassidy cough ;)
But no really, this pattern is very odd. It was inspired by that sideways bias triangle shape (the shape that Martina Behm invented and that was popularized by Andrea Mowry’s Find Your Fade). I wanted the idea of starting on one side and ending on the other (which is lovely for stripes, especially since the fabric is biasing in two directions from a central decrease stitch). So I tweaked and tweaked and ended up here. Not at all where I intended to be, but so glad!
Once I had cast this thing off I sat it flat on the ground and went “Oh”. I had expected it to be quite triangle shaped still (I had imagined a shallower, longer, less biased Find Your Fade shape), but of course it wasn’t. The shawl looked sort of like like a rectangle where someone has pulled the top two points quite hard and they just stayed that way.
With mistakes comes innovation. Despite the fact that this is a very, very odd shape, this shawl is SO wearable. It’s long and wraps well, it’s still very shawl-y (lovely lace increases and again, that lovely lightly biased fabric). It has two pointed ends that drape lovely over your shoulders and the construction isn’t boring to knit!
I’m happy with it! I have a feeling this may end up being my new most-worn-shawl!
Super thanks to my lovely models! Sae Goto, Nicola Hodges and um, I guess myself? I’m in there too!
Creds Nicola Hodges for tech editing this pattern :)
