These socks are named after the magical place that is the Somiedo Natural Park in Asturias. A few months ago, my friend Laura Menéndez and I hosted a knitting retreat there. We spend our days getting to know a wonderful group of knitters, surrounded by magnificent mountains, stunning nature, and the promise of bear sightings.
These colorwork socks are worked in the round from the cuff to the toe. They feature a colorwork section at the leg and a reinforced heel flap. The heel and toe can both be worked in the main color (brown and beige sample) or using the contrast color (beige and rust sample)
SIZES
1 (2)
To fit a foot circumference: 21 (23) cm) / 8.4 (9.2)”.
Foot is knit to length.
YARN
Finull by Rauma (100% wool) 50gr / 176 m (191 yds).
Beige sample: 2 skeins in colorway 4133 for the MC and 1 skein in 4132 for the CC.
Brown sample: 2 skeins in colorway 0464 for the MC and 1 skein in 4078 for the CC.
NEEDLES
— US 2 (2.75 mm) circular needle with a short cable or a cable of at least 80 cm length for magic loop for ribbing.
— US 3 (3 mm) circular needle with a short cable or a cable of at least 80 cm length for magic loop for the leg and foot.
Toe can be knit with gauge or below-gauge needle size based on your preference. I particularly like a smaller toe, but most knitters prefer a toe knit in the same gauge as the rest of the foot.
If not using the magic loop, it is recommended to use a pair of DPNs or an extra pair of short circular needles to work the decreases of the toe.
GAUGE
24 sts x 28 rounds = 4” (10 cm) in stockinette stitch in the round with larger needle, after blocking.
NOTIONS
Stitch markers, tapestry needle, and nylon reinforcement for the heel and toe (OPTIONAL)
