Accessibility statement: the main version of this pattern is the easy-read version and has been designed with accessibility in mind. It is available both as a web page and as a PDF.

Vision Accessibility: The easy-read versions of the pattern are written in sans serif font in all black text. The PDF version uses 24pt font. For the web page version, there is a toggle at the top of the page that can be used to switch between 24pt font and the user’s default text size. This toggle is on by default. The web page is responsive to zooming in or out, or changing the font size of your browser, without having to scroll horizontally. There are no italics. All of the directions are fully written out. There are images included, and all images have alt text, but the images are not needed to complete the pattern.

Screen Reader Accessibility: The easy-read versions of this pattern are screen reader accessible. They have been formatted to work with a screen reader by fully writing out all instructions and not using any abbreviations for stitches. Repeats are clearly indicated. The web page version of the pattern has been tested using the NVDA screen reader, and the easy-read PDF has been tested in Adobe Acrobat using both NVDA and JAWS.

Skills needed:

  • Basic amigurumi techniques: creating a magic ring, working in the round (both in a continuous spiral and with joined rounds), increases and invisible decreases
  • Basic working in rows (for the scarf)
  • Colour changes, and ideally half colour changes. However, the half colour changes can just be worked as regular stitches in the new colour instead for a slightly messier result.
  • Basic sewing pieces together
  • Basic embroidery (I just used a back stitch) for embroidering the mouth, or you could do the mouth some other way like with felt if you prefer

Materials:

  • size 4/medium/worsted weight yarn in:
    • Accent colour (I used green; you would probably use blue)
    • Body colour (white)
    • Scarf colour (I used gray; you would probably use coral red)
    • Paw colour (I used black; you would probably use blue)
  • Crochet hook (3.25mm, size D)
  • Black safety eyes (8 mm) and black safety nose (11 mm)
  • Black embroidery thread
  • Craft wire (optional for poseable legs)
  • Typical amigurumi tools and materials: stuffing, stitch markers, yarn needles, etc.
