This shawl is a crescent designed for fingering weight yarn and uses a stitch pattern derived from a Japanese pattern book involving alternating blocks of a ribbed cable and simple lace. It is knitted from the centre top down and is finished with a knitted-on border which echoes the elements in the shawl and includes a cabled edge. The ribbed cable means the shawl is more or less reversible, which is always a good thing.

The yarn I used is Luschan from Green Tea Yarns, a blend of Blue Faced Leicester and Silk, which has a beautiful drape and sheen and fabulous stitch definition. This pattern is most suited to a solid or semi-solid colour so that the stitch pattern is in the foreground.

Both charted and written instructions are included in this pattern. All the lace stitches are worked on the right side only, while the ribbing occurs on both sides. The blocked and relaxed piece as knitted measured approximately 30cm deep with a span of 120cm, however the final size will vary according to your own choice of yarn and needle, as well as your own knitting tension.

Requirements:
3.25mm US3 and 3.00 US2.5 cable needles (or your preferred sizes for knitting lace in fingering/4ply yarn).
100g 400m/437yds fingering/4ply yarn.
