Overlay mosaic crochet CAL

I will be donating GBP 2.00 for each Sonia’s Holiday pattern sold on Ravelry up to 24th December 2023 to a local cancer charity, the Big C (https://www.big-c.co.uk/).

Sonia’s Holiday was originally designed as a 6-part CAL (Crochet ALong), which ended 1st December 2023.

All files for the individual CAL parts have now been removed and replaced by a single file containing the complete pattern.

“Sonia’s Holiday” is named in honour of my dear cousin, who sadly passed away from cancer just before Christmas 2022.
It is worked using the overlay mosaic crochet technique, and finished off with a beautiful envelope border to hide the loose ends.
The border is easily customisable, so you can include as many, or few, lights as you like.

If you are unfamiliar with mosaic crochet or the envelope border, don’t worry, they are much easier to do than they look.
Full written instructions are provided, alongside clearly marked, easy to read charts and lots of helpful photos, making this pattern suitable even for total beginners to mosaic crochet - you just need to be able to do chains, dcs and trs (UK terms).

The pattern is written for a single size (approximately 90 x 120cm), and colour packs are available from Stylecraft stockists for this size.

The pattern also includes additional information to enable you to easily make a different size… and you can even add the new festive gauge swatch pattern if you would like your blanket to be a little longer.

The 48-stitch repeat also makes Sonia’s Holiday easy to combine with my previous Christmas CALs: HoHoHo and Letitia’s Holiday.

To simplify the abbreviations, and avoid the need for separate UK and US versions, the pattern is written in my ’Universal’ terms (I developed these terms for the Jacquard Temperature Blanket and have also used them in Flora’s Fauna, HoHoHo and all subsequent overlay mosaic crochet designs).

Some background information

In case you aren’t already aware, my real name is Samantha, but I chose to take my Grandmother’s name for my crochet design business, as she was the lady that taught me to crochet back in the early 1980s.

Sonia was my cousin, and Rosina’s first-born grandchild. I have never known anybody more kind and generous than she was. She absolutely loved Christmas, but was tragically taken from us by cancer just a few days before Christmas 2022.

To honour Sonia’s kindness, and raise some money for a local cancer charity, I will be donating GBP 2.00 for each Sonia’s Holiday pattern sold on Ravelry, up to 24th December 2023, to the Big C (https://www.big-c.co.uk/).
